The game is on at Incheon

The 17th Asian games is up and running and India has put on a decent show competing with their Asian counterparts. The gold medal account was opened by Jitu Rai, the current World No 1 in the 10m event. Rai who is also known as the ‘Pistol King of India’is only the fourth Indian shooter to have won the gold medal at the Asian Games after Jaspal Rana in 1994 and 2006 and shotgun experts Randhir Singh in 1978 and Ronjan Sodhi in 2010.

India currently have won 6 medals in total at the games as of Monday. In addition to the gold by ace shooter Jitu Rai, India has won 5 bronze medals. Deepika Pallikal having beaten fellow country women Joshna Chinappa won India a bronze medal in squash. Previously at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, India put up its best performance ever at the games finishing with 64 medals including 14 golds. This tally included first ever medals in Gymnastics and Roller Sports. With over 13,000 athletes taking part in this edition of the Asian Game’s the hopes of a billion people lie in the hands and legs of a contingent of India’s best sports persons.
